Race Rules

Please read the race rules stated below carefully.


APPLYING TO ALL SEGMENTS OF THE RACE

1.    Medical personnel have the ULTIMATE and FINAL authority to remove a competitor from the race if the competitor is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without risk of serious injury to themselves or others.  Medical transport of any competitor will result in disqualification.

2.    If a competitor withdraws from the race at any time, it is his/her responsibility to report to the Race Office and hand in their race number and timing band as it is essential that race officials know where each contestant is on the course at all times.

3.    Communication or entertainment devices of any type are strictly prohibited during competition and use of such devices will result in disqualification.

4.    A competitor must not accept any form of outside assistance (food, drink, clothing, equipment) from non-authorised race personnel i.e. spectators, family, friends, coaches, nor leave items at spots on the course for collection whilst competing.  A competitor reported for such activity will be disqualified.

5.    The race organisers reserve the right to make rule changes at any time provided all competitors are notified in writing and/or at the pre-race mandatory meetings.

6.    Discarding equipment such as clothing, bidons, gel wrappers, equipment etc anywhere on the course except at Aid Stations is not permitted.  A competitor observed breaching this rule will be issued with a Littering infringement which will require him/her to serve a Stop/Start penalty either on the course where the infringement occurred (Swim and Run) or in the Penalty Box (Bike).

7.    The Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore triathlon is a non-drafting event.

General:
Please note that MP3 players, cell phones and any transmitter and / or receivers will not be allowed on course. Disk wheels may be used on the rear only on the bike course, the torso must be covered during the bike and run legs.



TRANSITION

1.    Each competitor must pack all his/her swim gear in his/her Bike Bag and all his/her bike gear in his/her Run Bag before exiting transition so as not to impede the safe movement of other competitors.

2.    No public nudity is allowed as any breach will result in disqualification.

3.    Each competitor must have the bike helmet securely fastened on their head prior to un-racking their bike to commence the bike leg.

4.    Each competitor must have their bike helmet securely fastened on their head until they have racked their bike prior to commencing the run leg.

5.    Bikes must not be ridden in transition at any time.



SWIM

1.    Each competitor must wear the swim cap provided by the race organisation.

2.    No fins, paddles, snorkels, wetsuits (if the water temperature is above 24C degrees) or flotation devices of any type are allowed.



BIKE

1.    No drafting of another competitor or vehicle is allowed.

2.    Competitors must only pass another competitor on the passed competitor’s right hand side.

3.    Competitors must ride single file on the far left side of the road except when passing another competitor.

4.    Side-by-side riding is not allowed as it may breach the blocking rule.

5.    The bike draft zone is a rectangle 7-meters long (approximately four (4) bike lengths) and 3-meters wide that surround every bike competitor and every motorbike on the bike course. The zone is measured from the rear wheel of the front bike to the front wheel of the following bike

6.    The draft zone of a competitor may not overlap the draft zone of another competitor or motorbike unless the rear competitor is in the process of passing the forward competitor or motorbike.

7.    When passing once the rear competitor’s draft zone overlaps the draft zone of the forward competitor or motorbike the rear competitor is allowed a maximum of 20-seconds to pass the forward competitor or motorbike.  At all times the rear competitor must be seen to be gaining on the forward competitor or motorbike.

8.    A competitor who has been passed must fall back 7-meters from the passing competitor before attempting to re-pass that competitor.

9.    A bike helmet, shoes and a top that covers the upper torso must be worn.

10.    The bike race bib number received in a competitor’s registration kit must be displayed at all times on the back of the competitor’s bike top /clothing or race belt and be visible to technical officials and race staff. The bike number should be affixed to the seat post. The helmet number supplied should be on the front, right and left sides of the helmet

11.    Competitors must follow the directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.



RUN

1.    No form of locomotion other than running, walking or crawling is permitted.

2.    Shoes and a top that covers the upper torso must be worn.

3.    The run race number received in a competitor’s registration kit must be displayed at all times on the front of the competitors run top or race belt and be visible to technical officials and race staff.

4.    Pacing by non-contestant runners is outside assistance and will result in disqualification.  A non-contestant runner includes competitors who have withdrawn from the race, have been disqualified or have finished the race.



TECHNICAL OFFICIALS

The Singapore Ironman 70.3 Triathlon organisers have appointed a Race Referee and a team of Technical Officials to administer ALL race rules across the entire race and all competitors are expected to be familiar with the rules.



RULE INFRINGEMENTS

Technical Officials will be proactive in ensuring that competitors compete within the race rules and may issue warnings before issuing an infringement, however this is not a requirement.  If issuing a Warning the Technical Official will gain the attention of the competitor, show a Yellow or Red Card and explain the action required by the competitor.

If the infringement is for Drafting, a red card will be issued and the the competitor MUST report to the Penalty Box on the lap the infringement is received to serve a five (5) minute time penalty.

If the infringement is for Blocking, Illegal Pass, Illegal Position or littering, the competitor will be shown a yelllow card and MUST report to the Penalty Box on the lap the infringement is received to serve a stop / go penlaty

Three (3) infringements of any kind across all segments of the race will result in automatic disqualification with no right of appeal.



PENALTY BOX

If a competitor is reported for an infringement during the Swim they will be required to serve a three (3) minute time penalty in a designated area prior to entering T1.

On the Bike Course the Penalty Box will be sign posted on the approach and will be located close to the East Coast Beach turnaround. Failure to stop at the Penalty Box or failure to stop on the lap the infringement was received or failure to serve the correct number of infringements received or serving the incorrect penalty will result in disqualification with no right of appeal.

The Penalty Box is part of the Bike course so a competitor must remain in their full cycle clothing and remain standing holding their bike upright at all times.  They can consume food and drink from their bike but cannot accept any food or drink from another person as this is deemed as outside assistance.

If a competitor receives an infringement on the Run course they will be required to serve a three (3) minute time penalty with the Technical Official.

Ironman World Championship 70.3 Slots
We have the initial information of the allotment of slots (there are 35 qualifying slots to the Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Florida) listed now in the Competitor Information area. Updates of these slots will be on the notice board at Registration.

Pro Prizemonies

The Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore will pay a minimum of $USD15,000, paid equally between male and female pro athletes only. 

Final prize money placement will be as per WTC regulations at race date.
